Masala Ingredients:
- 1 whole red chili
- 2 tsp. whole black pepper
- 1/2 tsp. fenugreek
- 1/2 tsp. toor dhal
- 1 tsp. oil
- 1/2 c. shredded coconut
- 1 tsp. toor dhal
- 1 Tbsp. tamarind paste
- 1 tsp. curry leaves
- 2 Tbsp. oil
- 1 1/2 tsp. turmeric ,
- 1/2 tsp. asafoetida
- 3 Tbsp. dried vegetables of any
- 1 tsp. mustard seeds kind
- 1 tsp. urad dhal
- 1 1/2 c. cooked toor dhal
- salt to taste
- Saute first 4 ingredients (masala ingredients) in a teaspoon of oil until they become golden brown and grind them in a blender with 1/2 cup shredded coconut, adding enough water to make it into a ne paste.
- Mix; tamarind paste with 1 cup of hot water and make a juice.
- In a saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of oil.
- Add asafoetida, mustard seeds, urad dhal, toor dhal, curry leaves, turmeric and dried vegetables in the oil and saute until golden brown.
- Then add the tamarind juice.
- When the mixture boils, add the masala paste, 1/2 cup of cooked toor dhal and salt.
- When the mixture comes to full boil, remove from heat and serve it hot with rice.
